DViT™ Technology Wins Best of Show Award at CeBIT America 2003
SMART’s breakthrough touch technology platform selected from hundreds of nominees
Calgary, AB – June 24, 2003 – SMART Technologies Inc. won the Best of Show Award in the Digital Imaging category for DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology for touch-sensitive displays, at the first annual CeBIT America trade show in New York City. Editorial and lab staff of eWEEK and PC Magazine reviewed outstanding new products and technologies in 12 categories, selecting winners based on criteria that included innovation, technical breakthrough and creativity of design. CeBIT America showcases the entire spectrum of technology&systems, applications, networking and telecommunications – featuring 400 enterprise technology companies and attracting media and conference attendees from around the world.

About DViT Technology
DViT technology can be used with very large displays in a variety of applications, improving the image quality, accuracy and scalability of touch-sensitive displays. DViT technology uses proprietary digital cameras and sophisticated software to determine the contact of a finger, stylus, pointer or other object. Cameras, situated in the frame around the display, communicate position information back to a digital signal processor that determines the exact point of contact. No special tools or materials on the touch screen are required, making the display easy to use and the image crystal clear. In March 2003, SMART globally debuted DViT technology, integrating the breakthrough technology into its Rear Projection SMART Board and SMART Board for Plasma Displays interactive whiteboards. Multiple U.S. and foreign patents for DViT technology are pending.
